hill of eight arts
design conept. Hill of 8 Arts blends in with the masonry and time-honored surroundings of the Villa Altissimo near Turin, Italy. It impresses with a striking cubature that, in contrast to that of the villa and the country house, is delicate, quiet and understated, yet still supports the preservation of the existing building. The special feature of the concept lies in its flexibility. The lightweight structures are used as a shell for the Art Cabins, as a pergola to connect the old building and the arcades, as an interior wall for an exclusive theater, as a canopy for an outdoor area. This range of possible applications is based on a simple principle of frame and module, inspired by the folding shutters of existing buildings. The wooden modules can be inserted into the steel frame as required and thus provide openness or privacy depending on their use.
usage concept. Hill of 8 Arts treats existing structures in the interior and exterior of the villa and country house carefully. The restaurant and suites will be located in the rooms of the Villa Altissimo, allowing the art to be visible throughout the corridors, corners and windows. The top floor of the villa will also become part of the exhibition as a cozy and secret excursion area. The renovated and structurally lightened country house houses artist rooms, workshops and an art gallery for a more private audience. Another spacious exhibition section is planned for the west wing of the country house, which will be a bright gallery suspended above an exclusive wellness area. The latter looks out over the wide, simultaneously industrial and charming rooftops of Turin through an arcade theme that conscientiously takes up the existing building on the hill.
The various constructions based on a modular concept are spread across the site without losing their sense of purpose. The main buildings are connected by large pergolas, which also open up a visual axis to eight distributed art cabins. Seven of the cabins each serve one of the major art forms, while another is open to any other contemporary art form. The angled cubature of the art cabins contributes to the Hill of the Arts art exhibition. They represent architecture and sculpture as an art form. The folded modules also have another outstanding function: In the interior of the small theater, they provide acoustic conditions for soundproofing. Its stage side faces west, where the modules can be opened flexibly, allowing a fantastic view of Turin to be offered as part of the performance in the evening hours.
